About Christy Pym

Experience earned.
Experience shared.

I've spent my career learning what it really takes to be a professional goalkeeper. Now I want to share those lessons with the next generation.

My journey

From young goalkeeper to the professional game.

I'm Christy Pym, a professional goalkeeper with more than 400 senior appearances in English football. My career has taken me through Exeter City, Peterborough United, Mansfield Town, Stevenage and Grimsby Town — each club bringing new challenges, different coaches and valuable lessons.

I've been part of two promotion-winning teams, won a League One Golden Glove and played in two Wembley play-off finals. I've also experienced the disappointment of losing those finals — moments that teach you just as much about character as winning does.

Along the way I've received international recognition, including an England Under-20 call-up and a Northern Ireland international call-up. But it's the everyday demands of professional football that have shaped me most.

The reality of the position

It's never been just about making saves.

I've competed for starting places, worked under different managers and goalkeeper coaches, dealt with injuries and setbacks, and had to respond to difficult performances in front of thousands of people.

There are brilliant moments in football, but there are also times when confidence drops, opportunities feel limited or a single mistake stays with you longer than it should. Learning how to respond to those moments is a huge part of becoming a better goalkeeper.

The best lessons don't always come from your best games.
Why I started mentoring

Giving young goalkeepers the guidance I know matters.

When you're developing as a goalkeeper, having someone experienced to speak to can make a real difference. You might need an honest second opinion on a match, help understanding a technical detail, or simply reassurance and perspective after a difficult weekend.

That's why I created Christy Pym Mentorship: to offer individual, accessible support beyond the training ground. I want to help goalkeepers understand their game, build strong habits, handle pressure and make confident decisions about their development.

I'm not here to replace your coaches. I'm here to be another experienced voice in your corner — someone who understands the position because I've lived it.
